This webquest is designed for a Core Knowledge unit on world religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. While this is designated as a first grade unit of study, it could be used at other grade levels not following the Core Knowledge curriculum.
Language Arts Standards - Grade 1
Reading Goal (R) The student will draw upon a variety of strategies
to comprehend, interpret, analyze, and evaluate what he or she reads.
Research Goal (RS) The student will access and use information
from a variety of appropriately selected sources to extend
his or her knowledge.
Communication Goal (C) The student will recognize, demonstrate, and
analyze the qualities of effective communication.
Directions For Making Symbols
| Judaism - Star of David
1. Make a pattern for two equilateral triangles. Good working dimensions are six-inch outer sides and four inch inner sides. 2. Each student will trace two triangle patterns onto yellow construction paper and cut out. 3. Interlock the two triangles. Apply glue and gold glitter. |

| Christianity - Cross
1. Make a pattern of two rectangles. One should be seven inches long and one inch wide. The other should be four inches long and one inch wide. 2. Each student will trace both rectangles onto black construction paper and cut out. 3. The shorter rectangle is stapled across the longer one approximately two inches from top. Apply glue and silver glitter. |
