pencil Day One
  1. Select an editor for your newspaper.  Although everyone will be responsible for one page, the editor will oversee the selection of topics for the various news articles and make sure duplication of article topics are avoided.
  2. Review and print the Newspaper Rubric.
  3. Review and print the Teamwork Rubric.
  4. Divide the following page assignments between the four members of your group: 
    • Front Page News & Weather
    • Business & Classifieds
    • Sports & Comics
    • Editorials, Letters to the Editor & Obituaries
    • Note:  Graphics, photos, drawings, charts, and advertisements may be included on any page.  Be sure to credit sources for any photos.
  5. As a team, brainstorm article ideas after reviewing resources and discussing topics and issues found in the novel, The Call of the Wild.  Print and use organizer to record ideas.

  1. Individually, research, plan, and write articles using resources and The Call of the Wild.  
  2. Use the following writing links as needed:

  1. Write rough drafts.  If you don't finish rough drafts during class, you should complete for homework.   Be sure to save to disk or server.

  1. Revise and edit your articles.
  2. Using Microsoft Publisher, layout your page.  Be sure to save to disk or server.
pencil Day Eight
  1. As a group, use the Copy Editing and Proofreading Checklist to evaluate your newspaper.
  2. Revise and edit articles and pages as needed.
  3. Self-evaluate newspaper, using Newspaper Rubric.
  4. Self- evaluate group dynamics, using Teamwork Rubric.
  5. Submit both rubrics and newspaper to the teacher.
