 Description: Harlem Renaissance

Content Areas: Language Arts 11th grade English
Social Studies 11th grade American history
To make this WebQuest meaningful, students should be familiar with the prelude to this era including what led African Americans to flee to the North and what was going on historically and literarily prior to 1920. In social studies, students should have already studied World War I and its effect on the United States as well as the world. In English classes, students should have read literature pertinent to World War I and the period immediately following it.

This WebQuest requires students to research the early 1900's through the 1920's from the perspective of artists, authors, and historians to gain insight into the social, artistic, and cultural change which took place during that time period.

To complete the assignment, students must have prior experience using PowerPoint. They also need to know how to import images from the internet into a PowerPoint program. A lesson in evaluating Web sites would also be helpful.

You may use Rubistar to create your own rubric.
