TEACHER NOTES

This web quest design  was created to integrate with a Johnny Appleseed Unit used in September and should last at least one week. Through that time, students become familiar with exaggerations and figurative language. In addition to the tall tales here I am suggesting several others with female characters.
  • Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockett by Carol Lee Cohen
  • Swamp Angel by Anne Issacs
  • Iva Dunnit and The Big Wind by Carol Purdy
Before this web quest, it is imperative for teachers to provide experiences with graphic organizers, note-taking, and persuasive writing.

Please be sure to share the rubric evaluations with students prior to completing the activities. These should also be printed so they are readily available. I use 6Traits Writing for writing workshops.

As post activities, students will watch the video tapes of their presentation and write an independent version of a tall tale.
