TECH29299 Introduction to Computers
Course participants will learn to operate in the Windows environment, use Microsoft Word to create simple documents, and use their GroupWise email accounts and the Internet at a beginning level. Skills learned in this course include: saving and finding files, managing an email account, accessing and searching the Internet, mouse manipulation, changing settings in Windows, using Microsoft Word to create documents, and other basic computer operations.

TECH29300 Beginning Classroom Technology Integration to Support the Coherent Curriculum
In this beginning course, participants will learn to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher, manage their GroupWise email accounts, use the Internet as a teaching tool, and access valuable student MAP data, the Learning Continuum and Lexile scores online. Throughout the course, participants will create classroom-ready technology integration projects, which support the coherent curriculum for their content area.

TECH29400 Intermediate Classroom Technology Integration to Support Coherent Curriculum
In this course, teachers acquire intermediate-advanced skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access. Participants create dynamic technology projects that support the coherent curriculum. Teachers will also learn how to access valuable MAP data online, and expand their teaching using the Learning Continuum and Lexiles.

TECH29310 Adobe Photoshop for Teachers
Adobe Photoshop allows users to edit photographs and create dynamic designs for print and the Web. This intermediate course serves as an introduction to Adobe Photoshop. You will learn basic through intermediate Photoshop skills, including placing text in an image, working with layers, filters and colors, creating special effects, and designing products for the Web.

TECH29402 Creating Educational Web Pages with Dreamweaver
THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Participants must have experience with web development OR have competency in basic computer operations, file management and Microsoft Word. Dreamweaver is an effective and widely-used web development program that allows users to create professional-quality web pages. This course focuses on using Dreamweaver to create content-related web pages for education. Participants will create their own web page that can be readily used in their teaching.

TECH29410 Technology in the Art Curriculum
This class is designed for K-12 art teachers who have experience with basic computer skills and would like to learn ways to integrate art-specific technology into their teaching. Participants in this course will learn to use Core FX, the Wacom computer drawing tablet (pen tablet) and other software and resources for the classroom. Art teachers will find that combining Core FX with drawing tablets provides a powerful technology tool to truly engage students and expand learning. Participants will draw, paint, and create simple animations and other graphical images as well as learn approaches for using these technologies with students to support the art curriculum.

TECH29498 Digital Cameras, Photoshop and DreamWeaver
THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS. You must have completed a course in PhotoShop and Dreamweaver before taking this more advanced class. This course will combine digital photography with Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia's Dreamweaver software. Come delve further into design techniques for both Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Edit photographs, create professional-looking web pages and plan ways to integrate a web presence into your classroom, school or department.

This course introduces teachers to Kidspiration, a user-friendly, open-ended graphic organizer program for students in grades K-3. Kidspiration allow students (and teachers) to create their own graphic organizers for any content area. It develops organizational skills, helps clarify thinking, deepens understanding of content, increases retention and taps into creativity. Course participants learn the fundamentals of the program and how to use it with young students. Teachers create projects of their own that can be used in their classrooms, as well as design lessons that integrate using the program with students to support the curriculum.

TECH29204 Integrating Inspiration into the Coherent Curriculum
This course introduces teachers to Inspiration, a user-friendly, open-ended graphic organizer program for students in grades 3-12. Participants learn to use educationally sound software and age-appropriate web sites to effectively enhance early childhood classroom instruction. Research supports the use of technology for improving student learning and performance in early grades in a broad range of content areas. Participants will build projects and templates to use with young children, as well as discover ways to incorporate student-created projects into their curriculum.

TECH29212 The World at Your Students' Fingertips: Excellent Sites for Information Gathering
This course is designed for teachers who have knowledge of basic computer skills and want to use the Internet more effectively with students. Guided activities and assignments will target student-friendly sites to use as resources. Teachers will create a student resource list of sites and post them on their eChalk class page. (Teachers will need to be able to login to their eChalk accounts for this course.)

TECH29205 PowerPoint and Publisher for the Classroom
In PowerPoint, participants learn the basic skills necessary to create effective electronic presentations. Topics include: creating and editing slides with transitions and animations; using the drawing tools; inserting clip art, digital images and tables; using design templates and the Slide Master; and basic presentation design principles.

In Publisher, participants learn to use the program to create professional-looking brochures, flyers, newsletters, business cards and more. Learn to incorporate both of these Microsoft Office programs in your classroom to create student projects that support curriculum standards.

TECH29206 Computer Confidence in 15 Hours
Are you a little nervous when it comes to "copy and paste"? This BASIC short course is ideal for the beginner. It helps boost computer confidence. Participants will learn computer terminology, mouse skills, how to save and find files, gaining a better understanding of the Windows environment. Students will also become acquainted with applications like Word, and Internet Explorer.

TECH29202 eChalk for Teachers
eChalk is a web-based communication and resource network that connects students, teachers, parents, and administrators within the Charleston County School district. This set of integrated tools facilitates online interaction between members of the school community. In this course, you will set up and learn to use your own personal account with e-mail, address book, file storage, portable bookmark storage and access to the member directory of students and staff. You will also create your own teacher web page to be posted through the eChalk web site.

TECH29208 Excel for Educators
In this 5 week class, participants will begin with the basics and work toward the advanced spreadsheets skills. The focus will be on using Excel as a classroom instructional tool as well as for teacher productivity.

In this 5 week class, participants will begin with the basics and work toward the advanced data base skills. The focus will be on using Access as a classroom instructional tool as well as for teacher productivity.

TECH29214 Integrating Digital Cameras into the Coherent Curriculum
Get students excited about learning through digital imaging! Digital projects can be incorporated into any subject area, unit or grade level. With digital cameras, students can start with an idea, take pictures to illustrate the idea, and then expand on the concept.

In this course, you will learn ways to use digital cameras and images with your students to support concepts and the curriculum, as well as create projects and lessons on using digital imaging in your classroom.

TECH29200 Be a Tourist in Your Own Town: Digital Cameras and PowerPoint
Come take a field trip with us (location TBA). This class is designed for K-12 teachers who have knowledge of basic computer skills and want to explore using digital cameras in the classroom. Participants create PowerPoint presentations which incorporate digital images taken in class, as well as royalty-free digital images from the Web. This course is designed to help teachers learn basic camera operations, basic photo editing techniques and integration of digital images into a PowerPoint presentation.

TECH29201 Internet in the Classroom-First Steps
Course participants will learn ways to effectively integrate the Internet into their classrooms. Guided activities and assignments will target specific technology competencies as they relate to using the Internet in education. Teachers will learn to effectively search the Web and use existing educational web sites to create effective standards-based lessons and projects.

TECH29203 Using Web Projects to Support the Curriculum
This course is designed for K-12 teachers who have knowledge of basic computer skills and want to use the Internet, a valuable classroom teaching tool, more effectively to enhance and supplement classroom instruction. Guided activities and assignments will allow teachers to create Internet based projects for classroom use.

TECH29215 Using Computer Drawing Tablets to Enhance Classroom Instruction
A digital drawing tablet, or pen tablet, is a fast way to work with your computer. What is drawn or written on the tablet that hooks to the computer will display directly on the screen. Participants in this class will discover ways to use this technology to enhance classroom instruction. Emphasis will be on learning to use the drawing tablet and teacher created lessons or projects to use in the classroom.

TECH29207 Using Video Streaming to Support Differention and the Coherent Curriculum
This class is designed for K-12 teachers who have knowledge of basic computer skills and want to explore using streaming video to support the curriculum. A working knowledge of PowerPoint is a prerequisite for this class. Participants will learn how to search for curriculum based video, how to stream and download video, how to integrate video as a teaching strategy, how to use Assignment Builder for differentiation, and how to integrate digital images and videos into a PowerPoint or Photo Story presentation.

TECH29311 Using Heart Monitors in the PE Curriculum
Heart monitors: Learn the true way to check the effort that your students are giving during physical education class. It can only be done by knowing that students are working in their target heart rate zone. Join us in making lessons more meaningful by using heart rate monitors. This is a make it, take it course. You will leave with a heart rate monitor to use to implement your lesson plans into your curriculum. This course is for PE teachers only.

TECH29312 Using Pedometers in the PE Curriculum
A healthy person needs 10,000 steps a day for overall good health. That is equivalent to 5 miles of walking per day. Are your students getting enough activity during their PE class? Learn to improve their cardiovascular health by using pedometers. This is a make it, take it course. You will leave with a pedometer to use to implement lesson plans in your curriculum. This course is for PE teachers only.

TECH29310 Using Digital Cameras in the PE Curriculum
Do you want to analyze motor skills so students become independent and lifelong learners? Come learn how to use the digital camera in the PE curriculum. Make a PowerPoint to critique motor skills, raise self-esteem and enhance your PE class in general. Cameras will be available for use during class for hands-on expereince. Recommendations will also be made for those teachers who want information about purchasiing a digital camera for educational use. This course is for PE teachers only.

TECH29231 Integrating Technology at the Middle School
This class is designed for teachers at the Middle School who want to integrate more technology in the classroom and who have knowledge of basic computer skills and want to learn how to integrate streaming video and PowerPoint while using a SMART Board and the Classroom Performance System. Participants will learn how to: search for curriculum based video; stream and download video; integrate video as a teaching strategy; integrate digital images into a PowerPoint or Photo Story presentation; integrate the use of a SMART Board; integrate the use of the Classroom Performance System.

TECH29218 Using Digital Images to Enhance Classroom Instruction
This class is designed for K-12 teachers who have knowledge of basic computer skills and want to explore using digital photography, basic photo editing, photo essays, clay animation, and other teaching ideas using digital images with students to support the curriculum. Participants will learn basic camera operations, basic photo editing techniques, integration of digital images into a PowerPoint and Photo Story software, along with exploring online resources for digital images. Participants will also create a clay animation model to use with students.

TECH29216 Tom Synder's Excel for Teachers
In this course, participants will use the Tom Snyder Excel Workshop for Teachers workbook. Using the workbook, teachers will begin with the basics of Excel and work toward advanced spreadsheet skills.
