"I would rather be
ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out
in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot. I would
rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow,
than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man
is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying
to prolong them. I shall use my time."
Jack London
" How wonderful it
is that nobody need wait a single moment before beginning to improve
the world. "
Anne Frank
"I hear and I forget.
I see and I remember. I do and I understand".

Professional Development in Technology
The
Department of Educational Technology offers a variety of professional
development opportunities for all Charleston County School District
employees. Our training is also open to private school teachers.
These training sessions are based on the ISTE standards and meet
the SC Department of Education criteria for professional development
credit for teachers. We offer:
- Graduate Courses
These courses, offered in partnership with The Citadel and The
College of Charleston, can be used for recertification credit
and for step increases in teacher pay. The two colleges approve
our course syllabi and the instructors before each class is
offered.
- Recertification Courses
These classes are approved through the South Carolina Department
of Education and comply with the state's requirements for teacher
certification.
- Online Recertification Courses
Some of the recertification courses are offered online and are
approved by the State Department of Education.
- Technology Workshops
Workshops offered are varied, from learning to use Microsoft
Word to using digital cameras in the classroom.
In addition to the courses and workshops, in Technology
Tips, we offer how-to guides for all CCSD employees. Also,
schools can request workshops and courses designed for faculty
and staff at individual schools to be offered during planning
periods or after school hours. Contact the Department of Educational
Technology for these requests.
The focus of all technology courses offered through the Department
of Educational Technology is to train teachers to use technology
in the classroom to support the CCSD coherent curriculum to increase
student achievement. Our instructors are highly qualified and
our courses are constantly reviewed and updated to meet the needs
of our participants.
