The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and Technology

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) holds schools and districts accountable for the education of every child – regardless of race, ethnicity, income, geographical location, or disability. The comprehensive document provides sweeping guidelines ranging from special and general education curriculum and safe schools to teacher quality and parental involvement.

The major initiative of NCLB and technology is to assist every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring each child is technology literate by the time he finishes eighth grade. The timeline for implementation is December 2006.

Improving Student Achievement Through The Use of Technology
The primary goal of the NCLB Act is to improve student academic achievement. Technology plays an important part in meeting this goal. Almost every section of the Act addresses effective technology use, focusing on the key areas of technology integration, building access, accessibility, parental involvement, professional development, and technology curriculum integration.
